The laboratory “Snow cover and glacier research” is a scientific-research department of the Glaciology Department of HSRI at Uzgidromet.

The main tasks of the laboratory:

1. Collecting, analyzing and summarizing ground, air and satellite data of snow cover in the mountains. Maintaining a data bank on specialized observations of snow cover (jointly with Uzgidromet).

2. Improving the methods of assessing snow reserves in the mountains.

3. To reveal the spatial and temporal patterns of distribution of stable snow cover features in the mountain swamps of Uzbekistan.

4. Evaluation of the relationship of the characteristics of the stable mode of snow cover in the mountains to climate change due to warming.

5. Implementation of scientific grants and programs for the study of the snow cover regime in modern conditions and in connection with climate change.

6. Collecting, analyzing and summarizing ground, air and satellite data about glaciers and ice zones in the mountains of Uzbekistan.

7. Maintaining a data bank on specialized observations of glaciers (jointly with Uzgidromet).

8. Inventory of glaciers in Uzbekistan (jointly with Uzgidromet);

9. Assessment of the current state of freezing in the mountainous regions of Uzbekistan (jointly with Uzgidromet).

10. Implementation of scientific grants and programs for studying the regime of glaciers in modern conditions and in connection with climate change.
