The second stage of scientific field observations was carried out by scientists from the Hydrometeorological Research Institute (HRITI) on the rivers of the Kashkadarya basin. These studies are being carried out within the framework of a joint project in cooperation with the HRITI and the US Geological Survey (USGS).

This field work was organized from March 30 to April 2, 2026 at 11 hydrological posts of the Uzhydromet system located in the Kashkadarya basin. 4 scientists and specialists from the HRITI, as well as local hydrologists and hydrometers, participated in the observations.

During the field observations, water levels and water discharge were measured in the rivers. At the same time, samples were taken to determine chemical analyzes, the amount of heavy metals, and the isotope composition of water in order to assess water quality. The electrical conductivity, alkalinity, and dissolved oxygen content of the water were also determined using modern YSI instruments.

These monitoring and measurement works provide important information for the scientific assessment of the region’s water resources, the study of their sources and seasonal variability, and sustainable management.

We would like to express our special gratitude to the Kashkadarya Hydrometeorological Department, in particular to Utkir Kuziyev, a hydrologist at the Shakhrisabz station, for their assistance in organizing and conducting the field work.
