Meeting of representatives of SRIOH and Uzgidromet with experts from Chuo University and Ministry of Environment of Japan on “Development and improvement of national inventory of greenhouse gases”

During the meeting, the Japanese side presented general approaches on the use of remote sensing data from GOSAT satellites to improve the estimation of greenhouse gas emissions on the example of a project previously implemented in Mongolia as part of the preparation of a climate report for the UNFCCC.
SRIOH and Uzgidromet experts presented information on the main aspects of preparation of the national greenhouse gas cadastre in Uzbekistan:
Analysis of the results of the first biennial report (FBUR, 2021), the institutional structure for the preparation of the cadastre, the planned improvement taking into account the new requirements for climate reporting under the Paris Agreement.
A preliminary analysis of the main categories of the cadastre of Uzbekistan (according to FBUR) was proposed for development within the project by Japanese colleagues.
From the Japanese side, the following participated in this meeting: representatives of the Japanese Embassy, representatives of the Project Secretariat (Mr. Masato Yano, Mr. Seio Oyama), experts from Chuo University, (Dr. Masataka Watanabe, Dr. Akihiro Oba, etc.) and the Japanese Ministry of Environment (Mr. Gaku Kadosaki and others).
From Uzbekistan: F. Agzamov (Director of GMITI, Ph.D.), B. Nishonov (Head of Natural Water Pollution Research Laboratory of GMITI, Ph.D.), L. Shardakova (Junior Researcher of Environmental Monitoring Laboratory of GMITI ), O. Belorussiasova (head of the soil pollution monitoring department of the Uzgidromet environmental pollution monitoring department), Yu. Kovalevskaya (Leading specialist of the Department of Conventions and Agreements of the Department of Hydrometeorological Project Implementation and Management) and specialists of the Climate Change Department of Uzgidromet).
At the end of the event, the participants expressed their hope for effective cooperation in the future and agreed to hold a second technical meeting of experts in order to familiarize themselves with the stages of the planned project.
