Familiarization training with MODSNOW module!
On August 7-11, a training seminar on the topic “Improvement of the MODSNOW module and workshops in Uzgidromet” was held. Lectures were held by Dr. Abror Gafurov and Mr. Friedrich Busch in Russian and English. Employees of Uzgidromet and Hydrometeorological Research Institute and young research students participated in this seminar. 4 modules of the MODSNOW program were taught to Uzgidromet employees and young researchers on the improvement of the MODSNOW hydrological model and its use in real-time monitoring of water resources in the Central Asian region. The results have been provided to the agency’s hydrometeorological service, which will help improve flood forecasts as well as water supply forecasts for the growing season across the region.

For reference:
MODSNOW is an operational tool for monitoring snow cover and water resources in Central Asia. Features of MODSNOW Tool:
a) operational and automatic monitoring of snow cover in any river basin;
b) hydrological forecasting based on remote sensing using snow cover data;
c) operational monitoring of snow thickness, snow melting and water equivalent of snow;
d) short-term (several days) hydrological forecasting, taking into account the melting of glaciers in the summer months.
