Scientific staff of HSRI participated in the event “Academy of Experts on Climate, Peace and Security, Climate Policy and Finance for Peace” held in Cairo on October 9-12, 2023.
At the event, Mr. Alexandro Francassetti, Ambassador representing the President of Egypt, Mr. Ahmed Abdel Latif, Director General of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), Mr. Hakan Imsgaard, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Egypt, Hilda Khemetsthallar, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Egypt, spoke at the event. and the importance of the Academy of Experts on Finance for Security, Climate Policy and Peace spoke about its mission and the importance of studying such issues on a global scale. They also pointed out the problems that are happening in a number of African countries, which are currently suffering from climate change in front of the world, and emphasized that the actions being taken to some of these problems should be taken as a result of COP28.



The event took place during the month of women, peace and security dedicated to the 1325th anniversary of the 23rd resolution of the UN Security Council. This “women’s” Academy interaction highlights the key role of women in peace and security and serves as a strong backdrop for this capacity-building initiative to ensure women are not left behind in climate action, policy and finance. The event highlighted the need to encourage global networking between researchers and policymakers through a series of dialogues, and more on climate change impact assessments for women, issues that threaten women in climate change, and women’s security.
